As part of Hazlehurst Studios Draw on Halton 2 exhibition I created one of the largest pieces I have attempted in stitch. Based upon a tiny lichen on a roadside in Widnes I planned the drawing a number of time, sometimes by eye but also with a projector giving me an outline of the piece.
Machine embroidering the final design was tricky as I didn’t want to use a hoop while sewing so I had to attach interfacing to the back which wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be due to the size.
While there is a lot I would change about this piece I am really please with the final design and also the way it was hung in the exhibition (also a new technique for me) can’t wait to try my hand at the next large piece.
